You are invited to Walk the Byway from Schenectady to Cohoes and Waterford on September 19, 2009. You can walk the entire 26.2 mile Mohawk Towpath Byway route. Or you can pick your favorite segment within your city, town, village or community. The walk will start at sunrise at the intersection of State Street and Erie Blvd., Schenectady and continue east through Niskayuna, Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Colonie to Cohoes and Waterford to join the Quadricentennial Celebration of the Hendrick Hudson Exploration. It will return west along the northern loop of the Byway through Waterford, over the Church Hill Historic District to Crescent Park in Halfmoon. Transportation will be provided at 5:30 PM from Crescent Park, Halfmoon, back to the start at the western terminus . Municipalities and neighborhoods along the route are encouraged to provide water stops, access to emergency first aid as needed, and traffic control if deemed necessary by the host municipalities. Businesses along the Byway are invited to participate by offering samples of their wares or some other incentive to return during a regular business day. Walk the Byway tee shirts are available to the first 50 paid registered participants. Entry fee is $5 per person payable to the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway Coalition, Inc.
