Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway
Waterford  Heritage Day
Second Saturday in August  12pm- 9pm in the Village of Waterford.  This day long celebration will include a parade and display of Button fire engines, lectures on Button history, restoration and other fire protection topics and much, much more.   This event is co-sponsored by the Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center and the Waterford Public Library with special help from the Town and Village of Waterford.  For more information click here or call them at 238-0809.  
Stockade Walkabout
Last Saturday in September combines history, fun, education, recreation and entertainment for the whole family.  This year's theme is "...Connections to the River".  Call 377-9430 for information and tickets.
October 5, 2008 - This is a "gimmick" road tour.  Participants will be provided with a "mystery tour" outline and will  solve trivia questions with clues along the way in the comfort of their own vehicle. Winners are determined by mileage, correct answers to trivia and length of time to complete the course.  For more information click here.  Proceeds benefit the local children and teen programs of the Shenendehowa Rotary. 
Byway Duathlon
October 19, 2008 - 9 am Start at the intersection of Canal Road and Beach Road, Halfmoon. This is a fun 2.2 mile run, 16 mile bike, and 2.2 mile run to the finish on the Mohawk Towpath Byway.  This is to raise funds for the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway Coalition, Inc. a 501(c)(3), a not for profit that oversees Byway implementation.  For information and registration click here.

The Annual Fall Lecture Series at the Waterford Museum has several interesting topics highlighting the Museum's 40 year history.    For complete details click here.
Family Moonlight Ski
Thursdays before the full moon at 7 pm in the Vischer Ferry Preserve.  Meet at the main entrance at the intersection of Riverview Road and VanVranken Road.  We will ski a 1 mile loop along the original "Clinton's Ditch", across 1842 enlarged Erie Canal, look out over the current canal, and return along one of Clifton Park's first public roads to share a warm up fire, marshmallows, and good company.  If weather is not favorable we will try again the Thursday evening before next month's full moon.  Call 371-6667 during the day or 383-8565 before you load up your skis.
Shivering Stockade Walking Tour
The First Friday in February at 7 pm - The Schenectady Heritage Area will be conducting an after dark walking tour of the Stockade on the night before the 314th anniversary of the Massacre.  Cost is $10 and includes refreshments.  This is a part of a two week long Colonial Festival.  For more information on the walking tour or other Festival events call 382-5147.

Towpath Canoe Regatta
Thursday nearest, but not after Summer solstice - a fun family event for canoe or kayak on the Erie Canal in Scotia.  For more information contact Sue Brisley by e-mail or at 518-843-8133.

May, the Saturday before Mother's Day - A daylong celebration for the whole family highlighting Waterford's history and many waterfront resources.  For me information contact the Village of Waterford at 235-9898.
Peebles Island Open House
May, the first Saturday after Mothers Day - The annual open house of the Peebles Island State Park and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation facilities.  This event allows a glimpse of some of the interesting work that the State is involved with in preserving our heritage and has always proved interesting and popular.  Plan your visit between 11 am and 4 pm.

Historic Family Bike Ride
June the day after the first Saturday at 1:00 pm - This National Trails Day ride will feature a number of historic sites in and around the Town of Clifton Park.  The ride originates at the main Jonesville Fire Station, Main Street, Jonesville about 15 miles in length; includes refreshment stops;  and interpretation by the Town of Clifton Park Historian.   Helmets required.  Contact the Park and Recreation Department  518-371-6667
Self Guided Tour
June, the first Saturday at 1:00 pm - Town of Halfmoon National Trails Day and Mohawk Towpath Byway Celebration includes a self guided tour of Canal Road and several historic points of interest.   Pick up a map and information at the Terminal Road island between 10 am and noon.  This is a great activity on a bike.
Lock 7 - 12 Canal Fest
Second weekend in July  A weekend centennial celebration of the Erie Canal at six locations between Rexford and Amsterdam.  Activities include waterfront events, historic boat tours, crew races, Erie Canal historic tours, exhibits at the Maritime Museum, native American activities, entertainment, and much more for every member of the family.  Food will be available from vendors at each of the venues.  A complete schedule of events, locations, and itineraries are available by clicking here

Tugboat Roundup
Weekend After Labor Day  For one weekend each year, tugs new and old moor stem to stern for adulation and education, enchanting the young and reminding the young at heart of days gone by.  In addition to tours of the vessels and other displays, there is an ample supply of music, food, children’s activities, vendors, boat rides, fireworks, and family fun.  The Waterford Tugboat Roundup – where maritime history comes alive.  
Farm Fest 
Mid September A weekend of fun for the whole family, including farm tours, apple picking, hayrides, demos, animals, horse rides, country food and music and more! The Clifton Park farm festival is a drive-it-yourself (or bike) tour, where you and your kids will love getting an inside look at the animals and farm equipment. Hungry? Many of the farms will offer food and snacks made on site. If you are hungry for a full meal, visit one of four local community outlets, offering you delicious homemade breakfast and lunch options.
